This is a small, 18.5" x 16" quilt that I sewed up in a couple days for my childhood friend's baby shower.

The pattern is from the book Little Birds by Design Collective; the actual pattern was created by Anita Peluso.

I really hated the fabrics I was using when I started, I was concerned that they wouldn't look good together, that they weren't looking nice, etc. But after it was all done, I was super pleased with it!

The friend who got this loved it as well, and that makes all the difference.

My sewing machine is not cut out for free-form quilting, so I had to do some tight zigzagging around the birds instead. I took out a lot of the detail around the birds, too, to keep the project to only a couple days. Because my machine is a cheap kids-machine, I'll be using my mom's machine for future quilting projects!

This is darling <3 Since you had trouble with sewing around the birds, maybe you could try hand sewing the birds into the quilt next time? Or maybe super-gluing them once the sewing's done?

Well, they are already fused down, and I would do a blanket stitch around them if I was to hand stitch the embroidery. But I made the mistake of sewing the back to the front, so all my knots and random "back-stitches" would be viewable, and I'm all about the "neat" quilting! LOL

But I am planning on hand-embroidery next time for this quilt, unless I can borrow my mom's and if it will work the way I want it to!
